Corvette Z06 Unofficially CRUSHES the Nurburgring by Michael Accardi July 13, 2017July 13, 2017 Share Comments Thread Team Corvette has never officially sent the C7 Z06 around the Nordschleife on a timed hot lap. Luckily, we have the Germans from Sport Auto to set the record straight with a blistering 7:14 loop of the Green Hell using a Z06 equipped with GM’s 7-speed manual box. Truthfully, the lap raises more questions than it answers. How much faster could the car go with someone like Corvette dynamics engineer and all around hot shoe Jim Mero at the helm; could the car have shaved a few more seconds off its lap with the 8-speed auto box installed; and lastly, does this mean the ZR1 is capable of turning in a sub-seven-minute time? Regardless, the Corvette now takes back the GM Performance crown after unofficially beating the Camaro ZL1 1LE’s 7:16. To put the lap time in context, this is the third fastest lap time Sport Auto has ever turned on the Nurburgring, behind Christian Gebhardt’s 7:10 in a AMG GT R and editor-in-chief Horst von Saurma’s 7:13 using a Porsche 918, but neither the Porsche or the Mercedes require their drivers to row themselves.
