Cadillac Boss Says Blackwing V8 Will Stay Cadillac-Only by Evan Williams March 18, 2019 Share Comments So Cadillac’s new Blackwing V8 is going to trickle down to other GM brands, right? “Over my dead body,” Cadillac President Steve Carlisle told Motor Trend. Which seems like an extremely concise statement Those are some fighting words from the head of Cadillac, and it’s no surprise. This new engine is a big deal. A 4.2L twin-turbo V8 that in current top-trim puts out 550 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. At least it will once Cadillac CT6-V and Platinum models start rolling out with it. Carlisle isn’t saying how many more of the engines will be available either, with reports circulating that there will be more CT6-Vs than the 275 that sold out in just a few minutes. The engine is also expected to show up in the top trim of the next Escalade. But it sounds like it won’t arrive in the next Corvette. Or some sort of Buick Ultra? Of course, does a Blackwing by any other name sound so sweet? Remember Dodge’s Hellcat V8? The 6.2L 707 hp supercharged monster? Well FCA said that the Hellcat was Dodge-only too. How did it manage to find itself in the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, then? Because it wasn’t a Hellcat if it got a new name and badge.
