C8 VIN 001 Headed to Auction in January by Evan Williams October 7, 2019 Share Comments Want the very first C8? Well, there’s a way for you to get it, but we’re willing to bet that it’s going to be expensive. That’s because the very first C8 will be headed to auction for charity in January. That’s VIN 001 of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette, and the car will be sold at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction in January. Barrett-Jackson says that the proceeds from the sale will go to the Detroit Children’s Fund, an organization that helps underfunded schools in that city. This trend of selling the most desirable first car at auction for charity has been going on for a few years now, with other recent sales including the first 2020 Toyota Supra and the first 2020 Mustang GT500 which both sold earlier this year. The very last C7 Corvette was also sold last summer. So how will VIN 001 be specced? Fortunately, since it will be (hopefully) built before January, Chevy is making it a good one. It’ll be the hardtop with the Z51 Performance Pack. That means bigger brakes, stickier tires, added aero, and 495 hp. They didn’t say what color it would be, though red seems like a safe bet. Expect this one to bring a few million when it sells, so keep your wallet handy. Or just if you can wait some time to save some cash, head down to your dealer. At the convertible launch last week, Chevrolet officials said there are still 2020 order slots available.
