Cadillac to Introduce Vehicle to Vehicle Communications, Super Cruise

Sep 07, 2014 - 4:47 PM - by nsap
Intelligent and Connected Cadillacs are 2017.
September 7, 2014
By: Nick Saporito

Today Cadillac affirmed the brand's plans to offer a new vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) connectivity and Super Cruise technology on select 2017 models. The announcement affirms recent speculation that the brand was working on some form of vehicle automation, which Cadillac has hinted at in recent years. Despite the whiz-bang technology, details about it are scarce in the announcement, and worse yet, drivers won't get to experience it until the 2017 model-year.

The brand's V2V technology will launch in the 2017 CTS sedan first, according to Cadillac. The system will send out basic... [Read More]

SPRING HILL, Tenn. – General Motors will invest $185 million to make small gas engines at its Spring Hill manufacturing complex, retaining 390 jobs. GM also identified the next-generation Cadillac SRX as a future mid-size vehicle to be produced at Spring Hill.

An additional $48.4 million investment is planned for the Bedford, Ind. powertrain castings plant, creating or retaining 45 jobs.

My Cadillac CT7 and CT9 Project - version 2.0
August 17th, 2014
by MonaroSS

Ten Days Ago I Let You Guys Down

I Hope Here to Make Amends

Last week I got a lot of reaction to my proposed retro styled CT7 and CT9 range, mostly negative. That may still be true with these renderings because people simply don't like the heavy retro look of the CT9; shown both as Glamour Drop Top and Neo Lead Sled (NLS) V-Coupe forms here. And people may also dislike the mild retro styling mixed with Art & Science of the CT7 Convertible, Coupe and V–Coupe, also shown here.

However I don't think either design... [Read More]

Cadillac's CT7 v CT9 Stargazing

What I would do for Cadillac's CT7 and CT9 range in the future

for Mustang and Camaro
Why not Cadillac?

We know Cadillac has an Omega sedan (let's call it CT7) on the way to take on the might of the Benz S-Class and the other Germans. But what about the Omega+ super sedan above that? We heard it was cancelled, as it was not different enough from CT7. Will new Cadillac Tsar Johan de Nysschen revive CT9, and how would he make it not only different from CT7 but also make a bold statement in that elite and rarefied market space?

GMI Drives: Holden VF Commodore SSV Sportwagon

Sporting Wagonlove

10 July 2014

Modern marketing allows many liberties to be taken in the name of desirability. Some call it "artistic license". Others, "misdirection". Our recent drives in the Cruze Sportwagon and Captiva Sport Utility Vehicle found no traces of actual sport within. Finally we uncover something that represents what it says on the label. The Holden Sportwagon is both wagon and sporting conveyance.

What a shame that the world doesn't seem to like them any more....

Does GM need a revival?

Jun 29, 2014 - 12:47 PM - by NoStopN
As the title suggests, this is just my opinion. And, I can be long-winded.

I'll start this column by saying that from the outside looking in, GM's advertising seems to be hit & miss. Recent Buick TV ads & most of GMC's TV ads have been very good without the need to try to push a "type" of customer. What I mean is, these ads have not stereotyped a certain type of buyer for their products. Cadillac & Chevy ads have pigeon-holed their clientele into a certain class. However, advertising is a topic for another conversation.

So, what is there to fix?

I began to look over sales results for most of GM's models, & I was surprised. I don't usually pay attention to monthly sales results. That's because a new GM vehicle isn't in my driveway. Also, most of GM's vehicles aren't quite what I'm looking for. While looking over those results, I saw a common pattern. I call it the roller coaster.... [Read More]

GMI Drives: Holden Cruze MY14 Diesel CDX Sportwagon

Family Proportions

Waiting for the SUV fad to end? Well I hate to tell you, but it's got some legs in it yet. For those of you less impressed with a high centre of gravity and worse fuel economy for no good reason, there are still some great wagons around.

The Holden Cruze CDX, though less contemporary in the design department, now has the tech and practicality that would have made this a classic in a non SUV focused market. It wont be a classic to everyone else, but it will be exactly the type of vehicle that will be a favourite with owners.

That's good

$30,190 for top spec is... [Read More]

GMI Drives: Holden Captiva 7 LS

Basic Instincts

10 June 2014

As manufacturers look at new ways to make their SUVs seem new and exciting, Holdens Captiva 7 makes do with solid but aging foundations.

The Good:
Torque from the 2.2 Turbo Diesel dwarfs others in this price range
Still a really good size
Electric Handbrake and Remote Central locking are useful
Entry price of $32,990 is very good for a diesel 7 seater

The Bad:
Looks are getting a bit dowdy
Interior lacks flair and technology
Too many beeps
Auto-lock locks when refueling

You can see... [Read More]

Opinion: Do Numbers Lie?

Jun 01, 2014 - 4:55 PM - by NoStopN
Early this morning, I found myself bored. So, after a breakfast stop in town, I decided to drive down the main road in my city. This road has the most traffic, so obviously, the most auto dealerships (new & pre-owned). Our GM dealer is located inside of another major road & therefore gets plenty of passers-by. But, about 2 miles down the street, something caught my attention. First, it was a line of GMC Terrains with no license plates. As I drove by, I scanned the rest of the parking lot. A sea of brand new vehicles sat patiently for the right buyers. This parking lot was once home to a separate GM franchise during the "old" GM era, but is now the domain of a lawn care dealer. I drove by only to return about a half hour later for a closer look. For the 20 years that I have held a driver's license, I have repeated this sight seeing tour more times than I can remember. Today, I scanned about half of the trucks/CUVs on the overflow lot. In addition to the Terrains &... [Read More]
